This area is a beautiful holiday destination with something for everyone from rainforest nature reserves and koala habitats, to uncrowded patrolled beaches with great swimming and surfing. There is even a clothing optional beach in Port Macquarie - a short stroll from Shelly Beach Resort.
The ocean and river fishing are excellent and there are bushwalking tracks around the headlands where you can spot dolphins and whales during their migration season from June to October.
Port Macquarie's history of settlement began just 30 years after Sydney and there remain several buildings and churches from the early days as a penal colony.
